Bamboo train, locally people called NORRY, became the popular
transportation for foreigners to sightsee in the country side. It is located
near the Battambang City around 7 Km from the city. Normally, the villagers living
along or near the railway are traveling on this road by using the NORRY as
supposed locally transportation because it is cheap and saving cost expense.
Even it is spend time when there are some opposite directions of Bamboo train
come joints in somewhere. When they travel with opposite directions, they
always help each other, they carry the bamboo carriage from the railway and
then push other one straight then they fix the other one again on railway. The
travelers have to get off the carriage and waiting for the owner to fix the
carriage and motor. They used small size of engine generator to push the
carriage.
Bamboo train “NORRY” is made from the existing locally raw material such
as bamboo, wooden, nails, steel wheels and two axels. These material are not
expensive expect enginery. Each Bamboo train can use multi-transportation as
same as car truck or taxi. It is so interesting when villager use it as
important transportation for the villagers take patients or pregnant to
hospital for treatment and delivery the baby. They also use to transport the
livestock.
Today, Bamboo train near the Battambang Capital, is become a popular
adventure traveling for the tourist from the world. It is very useful and
market for the local villagers to get additional income to support their family.
The local authority is formed the group of Bamboo Train to avoid any issues happen
when the tourist come visit their place. They also think about the services provide
and serve to their customers with good services, and hygiene.
In general, it is great time for the tourist to try riding the NORRY or Bamboo Train, because we can see the view of rice field, learning about the standard living of villagers around the railway and think about what happen if there is re-construction this railway again because the Royal Government of Cambodia loaned from ADB to develop this railway from Khmer – Thai border to Phnom Penh Capital
